A compensating Bb/F alto made by Alex and dating from the 1970s we think. Reasonable valve compression. Yellow brass, screw bell.
It’s obviously a bargain for a reason though. This has had a bell fitted at some point that is not made by Alex. As such the tuning across the horn is not as settled as it should be. The top octave on Bb and F horns is excellent – fabulous for the scary high entries. The lower octaves play well enough but have a tendency to sit sharp.
So this horn will suit someone wanting an alto but on a limited budget and once they’ve learned their way around the instrument it should serve them well.
